Itinerary:
Time 9.30 a.m. Departure from Piazza del Gesù
The Old Town of Naples is the most fascinating part of the city. It was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and in 1995 it was included in the list of assets to be protected due to its phenomenal historical importance. Our tour starts with “Spaccanapoli”, as defined by the Decumano Inferiore of the ancient Neapolis, of which we can perfectly read on the ancient urban layout, characterized by hinges and decumans.
During the journey we will admire the Church of the Gesù Nuovo, with its façade recovered from a noble palace of the 15th century, we will pass next to the monastic complex of the Santa Chiara with its 14th century church and its cloister decorated in the 18th century with precious “majolica riggiole” by the Massa brothers. Crossing Piazza San Domenico Maggiore we will have the opportunity to get closer to the Chapel of San Savero where the most famous monument “Veiled Christ” is situated.
We will reach San Gregorio Armeno street, the famous shephards’street that, between folklore and tradition, hides the splendid namesake church that surprises for the excess of the interior decoration. We will continue through the Decumano Maggiore where there are the churches of Girolomini and Saint Lorenzo Maggiore.
The itinerary will end with an impressive façade of the splendid Duomo of Naples. This church preserves the famous Treasure of Saint Gennaro, well-known all over the world for the famous miracle of the Patron Saint.
